I just noticed that the paint on the trunk lid of my 02 Z06 has started bubbling. It's all along the left (driver's side) edge of the lid, and covers a swath from the edge of the lid to about 2.5 inches inboard. I very carefully poked at one of these bubbles, and it's flexible, but none are broken yet. Is this common? Should I be expecting this on the rest of the car. The vehicle's only six years old... I don't see why the paint should be failing already. I'd appreciate any suggestions about how to prevent the spread of this, and whether it's going to be a further problem. The car is still under extended warranty, although I don't suppose that covers paint failure.

Such issues have to do with improper preparation before painting. If there have been other reports, it may be a factory error. However, new cars often get dinged in shipment or in pre-delivery preparation, and refinishing is done prior to placing it in inventory. Dealers are not obligated to tell the buyer that -- stuff happens. If your car was purchased used, the previous owner may be able to tell you if it was resprayed. A dealer won't admit it.
