I just purchased a 2003 Z06 with 15,000 miles. When I test drove the car I did not notice the reverse shifting problem. When I try to shift into reverse the transmission does not engage and makes a strange noise. I shift back to neutral and then into reverse and it will engage the transmission. Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it.

Are you sure you are getting it into gear the frist time??? I have an 03 Z and mine seems a little hard to get into reverse once in a while, but does not make any noise... It almost like it gets bound up some how..I just take it back to neutral and then it goes right in..

It IS very difficult to look cool when you slide in your shiny Vette and grind the he** out of your gears with 3 or 4 people watching. Try going from neutral to 3rd then into reverse...should make ya look better to the watchers...

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I had the same problem with my former '03 Z06, and it was the first sign of transmission problems. I often had to shift to neutral and sometime even into 4th, let the clutch out a tad, and then over into reverse. It got worse over time, and later started having trouble getting into 3rd gear, shifting up or down, under power. Ended up doing a tranny replacement. When they pulled the old tranny, the synchros were all but gone.
Hopefully yours is the run of the mill reverse problem that lots of folks seem to have with the T56 tranny. I have it now and then with the 2004 Z when it's cold. Once the car warms up, it's fine.
Just pull forward in 1st a couple inches and then into reverse while barely creeping forward still and it will go right in. Mine has been doing it since day one and it doesnt mean squat about tranny problems about to happen as I now have 40K on it and tranny is fine..

Since day one as well. I always park it in 1st and rarely have to ease it forward before it takes reverse.
