Wanted to go for a ride last night when i got home from work and as soon as I got in and started her up I saw the display reading "service column". I wanted to just get going so I didn't pay much attention and thought it would just go away (I've only had the car for less than 1 month. 2002 EBZ06 - less than 8,000 miles - like brand new) as soon as I went to back up out of the driveway, i thought damn I just stalled the car. First time that's happened ! Tried it again - same thing. Now I'm getting annoyed. Pulled out the owners manual and thought - Oh, great. No wonder the thing keeps stalling out. Called the operation I bought the vehicle from (very reputable dealer that just sells used corvettes for many years) and he had me try a few things just to get by. They didn't work. My steering wheel isn't locked up. Just keep getting the turn off car and pull key and wait ten seconds. Then I get the service column displayed. As I'm sitting in the garage a little pissed and smoking a cigarette - i thought Let me check the forum and see if there is anything mentioned on there. Holy Smokes! 53 pages after i did a search in the tech forum.
Anyways the place i bought it from is 1.5 hrs away from me and they are aware of the issue and are planning on coming out this morning to fix the problem and bringing a roll back if needed to get it to their shop if they can't fix it in my garage.
I did get a vin information sheet from a CF member a few weeks ago on my Z06 - in the claims history section it reads that there was a steering wheel rotation sensor replaced on the car 2,000 miles ago. In the required field actions section it reads "electronic column lock system" with a posted date of N/A and status of "closed" - what does that mean, was it done or not ? I know there is a ton of info on the forum about this and I spent hours reading all your comments - i just needed to air i guess and hopefully I'll be riding in that blue rocket ship tonight !

This has happened in one scenario or another SO MANY of us. No disrespect to the OP but "what is CLB" should be required reading as part of the agreements to register for this website! It's that important!!

Well ..... they came and got my Z yesterday afternoon with a rollbed. Man that sucks watching your ride going down the road on the back of a truck. Now I have to sit and wait for them to call me and let me know what's going on and when I'll get it back.

Did you order the CLB ???????
If not, this won't be the last time you watch the car head off to the dealer on a rollback.
Also, I'd recommend you go and purchase some lubricant ..... you are about to be royally screwed.
The CLB and some help from members here ... you'd be spending about $50.00 to permanently fix the problem ...... let us know what the stealership charges to "fix" the problem ...... my guess is add another zero to what it would have cost you doing it the "forum" way.
or you too will be watching the car drive away to a deealer.
Once the column is in the LOCKED position (even if the lockplate is removed) and the BCM senses it is not unlocking, the car will be immobilized. The CLB comes with a disposable wiring harness that can power the lock motor to UNLOCK position.
HOWEVER, if the column lock controller has failed, it continues to report the lock status as LOCKED to the BCM. The controller is a $500.00 part from the dealer.
If you install a CLB NOW, then the controller is permanently bypassed. Even if it fails in the future the CLB continues to tell the BCM the lock status is UNLOCKED.

Not costing me a dime ...... I just bought it 3 weeks ago.
The owner of the used vette dealership (not a Chevrolet Dealer) is taking care of it. Christ - he even sent a rollback to pick it up at my house 2 hours away from his shop and is planning on delivering it back to me when completed. I talked to him on the phone yesterday and mentioned the CLB to him and he is looking into it. Who knows, maybe he will order one and install it for me. If not, I will be ordering one for sure.
I've read the CLB causes feedback issues with the ECBM which could potentially fry it!! This is why I suppose hevy didnt use the CLB on one of the many recalls they had on this issue...
I'm no expert on this subject.. jsut something i came across while reading on the subject and am offering it up for consideration..
Anyhow.. she'll be good as new soon!! happy trails!!

Don't know where you read that the CLB could cause "feedback issues with the ECBM (sic) which could potentially fry it" .......
Whom ever wrote that had their head so far up their azz they were looking at their own tonsils ...... what
You find me ONE SINGLE occurance ..... anywhere on the net ..... can't happen, the CLB doesn't have anything to do with the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module).
There are thousands and thousands of C5 Corvettes using the CLB every day. The worst I've ever heard a failure in a CLB do is exxactly the same as if it had never been there .... the car displays the SERVICE COLUMN LOCK message if the CL controller has failed or the lock pin is stuck in the LOCKED position.
