I'm hoping someone can help me. Recently, my targa top flew off my 99 and was scraped up pretty good. I just recently purchased a used top off of ebay that is in pretty nice condition. The only issue I discovered with the new one is that one of the front latches will turn 360 degrees, unlilke a normal latch that turns 180 degrees before hitting a stop. Since my latch on my original top didnt have this problem, I decided I would just swap the latches since the 360 degree latch appreared broke. I removed the two striker bolts off of the broken latch and took the latch off. I then proceeded to remove the 1st stiker bolt on the latch on my old top. At that point, I realized that I was not able to get to the 2nd bolt since the lever was in the way and will only move 180 degrees.
Has any one had to remove one of these before to replace them?....it might be that the one that spins 360 degrees is still good, just needs to have something poked in the holes to put it back in the locked mode where it only spins 180 degrees. I'm not sure.
I'm probably missing the obvious but at this point Im stumped. I know you can buy these at GM so I know there is got to be some kind of way to get to that second bolt!!! 8-)
Without access to my service manual to confirm, I believe the way you access those bolts is to remove the plastic plug in the middle of the latch handle - the plug that looks like a solid "D". You should be able to pop it off fairly easily. Once off, there is a straight shot to the anchor bolts.
