I am relatively new to the scene. I bought a 02 EB Z06 in April and love it! But I have soon found out about the drama around the fuel systems on C5's. Since the car has such low mileage, I suspect that it'a been doing a lot of sittin' around in its prior life.
The problem I am encountering is twice running out of gas with 5 gals to spare. I have read countless posts about Techron and the magical RH jet pump assembly woes. I am not really excited to pull out the RH assembly out of the tank to inspect, however.
What do you think my chances are in just running top tier gas with occasional Techron to potentially unclog this jet pump? Right now, I avoid the issue by just filling up at 1/2 tank, but that will severely limit me if I try to take it long distance. As anyone fixed this issue by flushing the system with good clean gas over time?
Best thing to do is use a bottle of Techron or Seafoam in your tank to clean the sending units. If you use Chevron then they already have Techron in their gas. There is no point in replacing your sending units because it is very expensive to do so and the problem will just come back again anyways.
I have not had that problem but my neighbor ran Sea Foam through his when he was having an issue and it seemed to fix his troubles. Just a thaught. Good Luck!!
I exclusively use Chevron...and every 3000 miles add a bottle of Techron. BTW, Texaco now has Techron in all grades of their fuels since they are a part of Chevron. It is my understanding that any of the top tier fuels will do. If you want a list of these brands, you can google top tier fuels.
So these additives can dissolve the stuff lodged in my jet pump? I see that some people remove the assembly and physically hone out the jet pump. I am afraid to run the tank past 1/2 tank for fear of running out of gas or worse yet...burning out a fuel pump
Why add Techron when you are already using Chevron and has Techron in it already?
Seems like an extra waste of money to me when every tank full has Techron in it already.

Are you talking about the fuel pump, fuel injectors or what? I dont know of a jet pump on our cars. The Techron will clean out the fuel injectors also and anything else that the fuel runs through.
The jet pump resides in the RH fuel tank. Twice now, I have literally run out of gas at 1/4 tank (sputtering and all), but when I go to fill it up, it only take 12 or so gallons.

You should ignore 90% of the comments above as they don't pertain to your situation. You're talking about the pump that moves gas from one tank to another.. I doubt any amount of techron will bring it back frrom the dead.
I had the exact same problem (2002 vert). Fuel sending unit not working properly and running out of fuel. Only required 13 gallons to fill.
I had the right tank fuel sending unit replaced and the fuel transfer jet pump replaced as one module. No problems since.
Some say that the fuel tanks have to be removed from the car for this repair. That is not the case.
Part cost at dealer was $481.12. Part info - FP number 89047748, Module KI 3.107. Part would cost a less if purchased online. About 4 hours labor to diagnose and repair at dealer.
No amount of Seafoam, Techron, or GM fuel treatment fixed mine.
I thought I would update everybody to what I found out. The jet pump was definitely clogged. I unclogged it and replaced the RH pump assembly, for it to run out of gas again at 1/2 tank. Finally, I just replaced the whole assembly.
I could not imagine what was clogging the jet pump with a filter just inches upstream. Ironically, I cut open the filter to find the element very clean. However under closer inspection, I noticed globs of adhesive used to attach the filter screen to its frame. This stuff was brittle and flaking off of the filter (on the clean side!).
Got to love it, many headaches, the embarrassment of running out of gas, and $1000 worth of work over a 20 cent part.
