I finally got my factory cd player,in my 97 c5 to play a burned cd,I had given up on trying, until yesterday when i put a "Maxwell" Brand burned cd in the player by accident, then i thought oh well here comes the old "ERR" message, but it loaded and started playing,I went in the house and burned another cd with about 14 songs on it,and it also played.I used "nero 7 essentials"program to burn cd and these "cd-r" cd's
I too had trouble. I tried burning at a very low rate to a 650 MB disk.
That seemed to work OK... for awhile. Strange. It played Ok for nearly
a week. Then started messing up.
I gave up and pulled the stock unit, speakers and all.
Mine would only play Sony brand CD's, but I'm giving up on it. Plus I am in need for a new cd player, so I have been using an FM modulator to play music.
I found that discs burned at the lowest possible speed on the right blanks would work, but with rare exceptions, I got a static sound on CD playback; I became so irritated that I ditched the Bose HU (stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment) for an aftermarket single din HU with a hard drive music server and nav and changed my 3.5 door speakers and rear speakers. Sound is now great - the Bose was very muddy in comparison. One of my best mods.
Mine gives error message for burned cd's but I found that as soon as I put it in I hit next track and it will work. The I can back it up to the first track if I want. Don't understand why it does it. My disk changer does the same thing even with some original cd's.
The both the 2000 FRC and the Z01 have the single CD Bose head unit and i have installed the Delco 25685332 CDX-M2016 ( 2002mfg date)12 disc CD changer in one and the Pioneer CCDX-M2016 (2001) in ther other using the Cor-Har harness.
Our 1996 GMC 2500 Suburban uses the single CD Bose head and the 16199553 Delco 12 disc CD changer ( factory install) with out any problem with burned CDs.
We always use HP-CD-R CDs that generally download from Itunes or from DVDs and original 'factory' CDs. The only code I've ever gotten was once and that was , of course the ERRR from not installing correctly.

What's a Z01?
I suspect the Delco-Bose head units vary. Some work better than others. The changer might be better - I don't know. It wasn't an
option for a Z06 and my '02 didn't have the harness. I thought about
installing one, but they are all too expensive for my taste (and budget).
98 here...and I have been playing burned CD's since around 2000. Maxell, Memorex, and Sony. And those were 'real-time' burns. Since switching to 'ripping' Mp3's, still no issues.
I recently solved a problem with burning CD's. It turns out that my antivirus software (McAfee) was interfering with the burn. The resulting CD would play fine on my computer but not in my car or on any other player. So now I just temporarily disable the antivirus protection while I am burning a CD and "voila!", no more problems...
