My service abs and traction control warning lights have come on hte dash display. Have been driving in alot of rain. Can the car be driven safely. Am on vacation and have about another 1500 miles to drive before getting home.
Mine does that every now and again. For a week or two, it was giving me that error every time I started the car, but it just went away and everything is fine now. I did test the traction control to see if it was actually working even though the car said it needed serviced, and it wasn't. I was able to spin the tires without computer interference. So, I guess the ABS might not work during that error too. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just drive more cautiously. The first thing I do when I get in my car is turn off the traction control though anyway.

You very possibly could have a failed EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module). It doesn't sound like you have pulled the error codes - but if you have not and don't know how - here's a link that you explain how to do it....
Bottom line - if it has indeed failed, you have no traction control, ABS or Active Handling. With a 1500 mile drive home - I think you should be okay as long as you remember that you do not have any of the electronic aids to keep you out of trouble. Be careful!
CHeck the code on the dic. If it is code 1232 then it is a dealer fix problem. It has to do with the front wheel speed sensor. I lucked out recently as they found a broken wire in the harness. Only cost me 96 bucks for the diagnostic fee to fix. If it was the speed sonsor then that would have been about 6 - 700.00 to fix.

Owners manual says when ABS is lit, it may or may not be working. Be safe. JOE
Thanks for the tips for diagnosing the codes. I have just driven from Atlanta to Bowling Green with no issues other than the light still coming on for the ABS/Traction control. I called the local Chevy dealer to see if he could check it out and......the service specialist said he cant look at it until Thursday. Nice to be so helpful to someone traveling on vacation! Thanks again for everyones input. jim
