anybody ever strip paint off of grey painted stock thin spokes. what was underneath. was it the polished aluminum like the polished and clear coated wheel?
Use aircraft paint stripper to remove it if that's what you decide to do. And be careful, that stuff is very caustic. The home improvement center products may darken the aluminum.
I doubt that it's polished aluminum beneath, probably just a machined finish to host the factory wheel paint. That's not to say it couldn't be polished and/or clear coated.

yes i used aircraft paint stripper to take poly off thin spokes and then polished with mothers and topcoated with a high quality metal polishing paste. required some work but the results were rewarding.
