I’m searching now in the forum but for all the gear heads my c5, 80,000 miles, year old belts, m6, stock (full exhaust) is squealing like crazy. Sounds a lot like the sewing machine noise and when I engage the AC it goes right away but then comes right back at half the noise level. All Fluid levels are good, performance not affected and the noise is coming from the front area of the engine. What do you think? Thanks a lot guys!
Hi There,
I would buy a auto stethoscope & find it with the engine running. You could also use a long handled screw driver to listen.I would suspect a bad a/c pulley,a/c compressor, drive pulley or a bad belt tensioner.

I'll bet on the belt tensioner. To check around the engine compartment, CAREFULLY take a long screwdriver, simultaneously put your ear on the handle end, and place the blade end on something SOLID and NEAR each pully. DO NOT let it touch anything rotating. You'll hear the bad pully/bearing easily.
