The quick and dirty is that a few months ago I was bumped by a full sized pickup truck with hydraulics for a snow plow (no plow attached). The light was red and he stopped but for some reason after a few seconds he lifted his foot off the break and he rolled into me. Damage was minimal but it caused cracking on the top of the plastic bumper (the horizontal surface). Progressive refused to agree to strip or replace the bumper. All Progressive would pay for is repair. The body shop said that they couldn’t argue with Progressive because “it was repairable.” I argued that reparable means it wouldn’t crack after now a 3rd coat of paint. The body shop folks were kind but not helpful and told me that it was reparable. Sooooooo, it was repaired.

Now two months later the paint on the top horizontal surface is cracking in exactly the same places where the cracks formed when I was bumped. The body shop says it isn’t their fault because the under lying paint failed. I said I didn’t care and that when they said it was repairable it didn’t mean to me that anything would fail or that it would fail in two months. Progressive is giving me a bit of a run around. I told them that they refused to repair it properly and that they still owed me a proper job. I am pressing for either the bumper be stripped or replaced and all at Progressive’s nickel.

I am told that when it was repaired before the body shop’s hands were tied by what Progressive would pay for and I wasn’t willing to pay for a replacement bumper that should have been the insurance company’s responsibility.
