I'm not sure if this is my imagination, but my car seems to shift harder into 2nd gear recently. I'm really not completely sure it hasn't always done that. You people out there with an A4, does your car shift a little harder into 2nd than it does into 3rd? It does not make more noise, I just feel the shift more into 2nd than 3rd. Thanks to all who respond.

I've had that same thing ever since I got my 3.42 rear end, but then again I just assumed it was from the retuned shift points. Don't have a problem with driveability and everything -had it for about 2 years now, actually it feels like shifting a manual trans to me.
The tranny shifts really soft before tuning. If you've had any tuning, they probably scaled back the torque management which is probably the case for the 3.42 gear install. The car will shift much quicker and harder wiht the torque management scaled back. Alot of folks, myself included, are a bit paranoid about their A4. If your stock and never got it really hot, I'm guessin its fine.
As you go higher in the gears, each gear change will be less aggressive.
Got somethin to do with physics. I am not sure of the theory, but I stayed at "Holiday Inn last night."

My A4 does shift firmer going from 1st to 2nd. I agree with the statement that the higher the gear the softer the shift.
I had my vette tuned prior to having any performance mods done and it really woke the car up. Firmer crisp shifts. The factory tune shifted like a Buick. A few months later I decided to do a few mods including installing 3:42 gears and re-building the tranny to level 5 specs. After that I had to have the tune toned down a little since the shifts were, in my opinion, violent! Half throttle and the tires are spinning when it shifts. Now after re-adjusting the shift firmness (torque management) the car shift firm and the tires will chirp when it shifts, but at 3/4 throttle.
