Default Best PORTABLE mechanics tool kit.

Looking for something to carry in the middle trunk compartment of my C5 (making this C5-related)...

Would like something that has combo-wrenches as well as sockets.

Recommendations?

Vaughn

I have had a few different kits but then are usually in a hard plastic case and you typically don't need 50% of the tools as a few metric pieces are all you need. I found a small black tool bag made by stanley at Target for $10 and put the tools I need in it. 1/4" drive with extensions 5mm-15mm. 3/8" mini driver with 13,15mm, tip ties, box cutter, one of those screwdriver handles with separate tips, fold up torx screwdriver set, pliers, couple smaller crescent wrenches, picks, magnetic pickup tool, mirror tool and a few more. I just can't see finding all those things in one kit.

I put together a medium sized tool box that fits right in the center cubby of my Z06. Basic hand tools with a full set of fuses, hose clamps duct tape, epoxy and tire repair necessities. I also have set of jumper cables in a bag back there, all purchased from Harbor Freight. The left compartment holds a small set of sockets and a spare quart of Mobil1. The quality is not great but it's pretty much for emergencies, mine and others.

Sears sells a lot of kits. The smaller ones are soft padded (no noise). I have one in my C5.
