Default 1/2" shorter shift ****?

I am not sure if this is possible without modifying the shifter but I like the feel of the stock shifter but absolutely despise the **** and its current height...

I am curious as to how high in the **** the threads come and if a different design **** may lower it about 1/2" that would be perfect?

I really like the c6 z06 shifter and **** but don't want to rig with my shift boot.

Thanks,
Andrew

The depth of threads in an after market **** would depend on the type/manufacturer of the ****. A DELRIN **** might appear to set lower, but it's possibly longer overall than a round **** or square oem ****. The oem **** is limited by the "demon key" retainer.
You might be able to deepen the threads of a ****, but you also might damage the ****. The deeper you go into the ****, the more threads you also need on the lever.
It's not hard to cut the threads of the oem shifter with a fine tooth hacksaw. You don't even have to remove the shifter. Wrap the threaded portion with several wraps of tape to insure a straight cut. Due to the milled slot for the "demon key" the cut goes very quick. Wrap a towel around the base to catch any metal bits. Then dress with a fine toothed file or coarse oxide sandpaper.
I did this on my oem shifter when I first got my car. I used the HURST six speed ****. I did it for the very same reason, just a little shorter appearance.
If you don't want to cut your oem shifter, I have the oem shifter from my '04 Z16 that I removed at approx. 4,000 miles. I cut it down at the top of the threads by exactly 3/4". You could use any after market **** you want or probably even the oem **** and "demon key".
PM me if you're interested.

I agree that the stalk is taller than necessary but don't understand why many dislike the **** itself. Though I discovered it on my own I will give credit to the "Ranger" method. Using the palm of your hand to push forward (on top of the ****) and the tips of your fingers (tiger claw) to pull back (leaving your thumb out of it) the **** is very ergonomic. This style is not meant to be gripped like a pistol...

Thats how I always drive (from the top)...The problem is my hand is too small for that bulky square ****- it just doesn't feel right for every day driving. While you are right the square edge is easy to palm and pull during racing thats too much effort for the daily commute.

Hotwheels you have pm.
