Default Wheel weight & style recommendations

Hi guys & gals,
Was wondering if anyone has the weights for stock wagon wheels. I believe the fronts are 17x8.5 and the rears are 18x9.5. Im interested in some aftermarket wheels but dont want anything to heavy. Im going to stick with the same size as the stock units. Anyone have any comments about reproduction wheels. I like the chrome split spoke or y spoke on the 08 vettes. My c5 is black and Im open to suggestions for any wheels or if you have any pics or comments you would like to share it would be appreciated. Ive just recently joined the forum but have been reading posts here for about a year. All I can say is what a great bunch of people and thanks to all for the things Ive learned here so far!

Well... Here is some homework I did on Stock C5 Z06 Rims and stock tires. I then compared them to my new CCW/Continental tire setup.

I searched many other wheel vendors and found no one for the price was close to as light weight as the CCW's.

For Rims I got :

Front 19"/10 - CCW SP500
Rear 19"/11 - CCW SP500

I also went with Continental Contisport 3's. They are a little lighter than most tires, and cheaper too. I am VERY impressed with the driving comfort now. They are so much smoother than the stock Goodyear Supercar tires !

For tires I got:

Front 275/30-19
Rear 305/30-19.

Front is 5mm taller than stock
Rear is 4mm taller than stock.

This way I maintained the same ratio of tire size between front and rear so as not to cause issues with the active handling or anything else.

Going off of MFG claims only for weights....

Wheel/Tire weights comparing stock Z06 setup to my new CCW setup.

Factory Z06 setup =
Front
...19.2 lbs (02-04 Z06 Front 17x9.5)
...29 lbs(265/40-17)(Goodyear Eagle SC)
...48.2 lbs Total
Rear
...21 lbs (02-04 Z06 Rear 18x10.5)
...33 lbs (295/35-18)(Goodyear Eagle SC)
...54.0 lbs Total

CWW - SP500 19/19 setup=
Front
...22.5 lbs (19x10 Front SP500)
...26 lbs (275/30-19)(Continental ContiSport 3)
...48.5 lbs Total
Rear
...23.5 lbs (19x11 Rear SP500)
...28 lbs (305/30-19) (Continental ContiSport 3)
...51.5 lbs Total

Hope this helps you out !

Tnx for the ifo Torque. Looks like you have really done your homework. Are there any fitment problems on your c5with this wheels/tire combo and have you noticed any decrease in performance. Ive heard a lot of comments about the loss from extra weight. Have any pics of your setup and where purchased?

I tried a set of aftermarket wheels (heavy). I did not do my homework before and YES I felt a performance reduction. They did not stay on my car long. I have not felt any performance reduction with my new setup. I'm happy..

I found that the CCW's were what I wanted. Much cheaper than the other guys, and lighter weight than most of them I found after some research. I called CCW directly to order, and no fitment issues at all. They know the C5's well. They also matched the Tire Rack prices for the tires I wanted ! They shipped me the tires and wheels already mounted/balanced with chrome wheel weights. They look great ! I took them out of the box, put them on my car and drove away...

I have a ton of pics on my web site:

Do your homework on your favorite wheel and you will be happy. I learned the hard way ONCE.... I'm glad I did my homework this time.

Sounds like your on the right track and looking into weights.

Good luck !

I got the "prettier" wheel itch but couldn't justify the expense of the high end and didn't want the weight/problems with the low end. I stuck with my stock 02 painted ten spoke's and matched them with new Toyo TR1's. The new tires weight a total of 10 pound less than the original Supercars and I could really feel a seat of the pants improvement with less unsprung weight.

The wagon wheel might not be the best looking Corvette wheel of all time but do look 100% better in the chrome finish. IMHO most of (even the high end wheels) scream "aftermarket" and look out of place...

Last year I needed to change my tires so I started to look at wheels also.
Now I have always loved the Y2K wheel in chrome so I found a set aftermarket in the Z06 size and also bought a set of F1 GS-D3 Goodyears 295x18 & 275x17.
After ditching the runflats and a set of factory mags, the weight difference is negligible.
So the wheels got heavy but I lost weight in the tires and up graded in size as a benefit.
