I replaced the plastic gear with the brass gear about 3 years ago.
I rarely drive the vette at night but the driver side headlight will raise slower then the passenger side normally. Now, the headlight won't raise unless a turn the **** behind the headlight, then it will go up and down several times then stop. Then I have to raise it up manually...
When the headlight is in the closed postion it rest a little too far down, it is not flush with the bumper. I take it the install I did 3 years ago is the problem.
If the headlight is below the bumper then the pin connecting the motor to the headlight may be partially out or you need to adjust the headlight cover. There are 4 adjustment points under the colored cover to align it with the surrounding panels.
The other issue of it either going up/down or not raising is confusing. First check the nylon stops (where the motor arm rests at full open/close). If they are missing the motor will continue past its end position. If the close stop is missing the headlight will start to raise again until it hits the back of the open stop.
The other posibility is your headlight control module is shot resulting in inconsistent operation of that headlight. Start with the simplest (pin/stops) and work up from there.
