Default Headlight Question - need advice

When I turn off my lights and the pop-ups go down a rattling/grind continues after they are completely down flush.

Any advice on what could be the cause.

It is most likely one side or the other and not both. The headlight motor gear probably is stripped and needs to be replaced. Soon the light won't go down at all.

Search the forum for the headlight gear fix. Can buy just the gear and fix it. I just had it happen and just replaced the whole motor with a new one I found on ebay.

One of your motor gears is stripped - you need to get a replacement brass gear such as this one from Rodney: http://my.execpc.com/~rodney1/vettegears/index.htm

It's fairly easy to do. You should just replace both at the same time.

I bought 2 gears from Rodney, but only installed the one for the stripped gear. Other light has been fine for years.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But as a good Scout, BE PREPARED !

Isn't it possible to just move the gear 180 degrees so the stripped part isn't used?

Not a new brass one but the old nylon may give several years service yet.
