Posted earlier on tech forum but hoped for a little more feedback. I apologize for the redundancy.
Okay, so I'm 200 miles into a 250 mile trip & I turn off the stereo for a while. I've been doing a constant 75 mph for the last hour or so & with the music off I start to notice a high pitched whine. I've searched MANY of the posts about the fuel pump & the descriptions seem to match what I'm hearing--change in tone when using an electrical accessory such as power windows, turn sigs etc. I stopped to investigate, shut off motor, restarted after a few minutes--noise unchanged.
I completed my trip and since fuel gauge read 1/2 tank I stopped to fill up. Upon driving away from gas pump--no more whine!
To those who have experienced this, does fuel level effect the whining sound if it's the fuel pump, or is it more likely I got some bad gas & topping off the tank @ 1/2 full helped to alleviate the effects of the bad gas?
What do you think?
'99 A4 vert 36k miles. Only had the car a month. This is the first time the car has been driven more than 50 miles in 1 day in at least 4 years.
A plugged fuel filter will cause fuel pump whine....If your Vette has 50K or more miles on it CHANGE IT!!!....It's out of sight above the transmission and somewhat difficult to change, thus they often get overlooked....
