I am an Assistant DA in the city where I live. The criminal element and their goings on is my concern as I am always vigilant. This morning, on my way to work, my "reserve fuel" light came on. I stopped for gas. When I got out of my car, I noticed a kid about 13 or14 standing by the next row of pumps, watching my every move. He lingered until I was almost through filling up. I kept my eye on his whereabouts the whole time. I hung up the hose, turned and looked at him just as he was taking a picture of my car with his cell phone. Had I had unlimited resources,I would have given him the car right then. He reminded me so much of myself at that age. I used to look at the "63" Stingray in that same way. I wanted to call him back and let him sit in it while I took his picture. I only hope he does'nt wait until he's 59 before he buys his first "Vette", like I did.
In your line of work you see the worse of what people do to each other. Been there, done that. The bashing myself afterwords for thinking the kid was "up-to-something" or worse, but actually just checking out my ride and dreaming like we did as kids. You just don't know anymore......you have to keep your witts about you.
Wtf does a 13 year old kid taking a pic of your car have to do with a hijacking?
Hoping to generate some traffic to this thread because of the date or what?
I think it's just some friendly sarcasm/irony aimed at a recent nervous hijack situation thread. I think the OP's approach to telling the story is pretty amusing... let's not forget that for every scary situation/bad apple that there are 100 good, honest, friendly people out there. It's just that the good deeds/good moments seldom get the spotlight.
THANK YOU !! those last two replies got my point. I did not appreciate that "WTF" comment. In this world, one never knows. It can turn out to be perfectly harmless. Had I overreacted and asked the kid "WTF" was he looking at, he may have thought that "Vette" owners were as obnoxious as some foreign car owners. The kid had it right! This is America and we have a right to dream!

It's all good guys. As a kid I always loved Corvettes. So I can see why the kid took a picture. You did the right thing by just observing him, but it's sad that we have to be more aware nowadays - sign of the times

I love it when kids check out my car!!!
I'm usually obliged to give them the "Stay in school and get your education so you can have a career that will let you afford your dreams" kind of speech.

Jesus, pull your righteousness out of your *** and relax.
A few people may have taken your subject in the wrong light, that's one of the banes of the written word.
Right on, thank you for your service to our country! And thanks for defending all Americans rights, even if some are not the brightest in the way they use or abuse their rights......
