Default Holy wheel well.....................(pic)

Anybody ever have this happen? I was on base doing my oil change and checking over everything when I noticed this!!! (driver's side front)

I am not sure when it happened but I called the Corvette Center to see about replacing the panel.. $65 doesn't sound to bad.

The hole is big enough to get my arm up to the fender vent!! oh well at least it is an easy fix!!

Wow, never seen anything like that before Looks like something peeled it down?

If it's a $65 fix then I guess I would count my blessings.

Rick from the Corvette center thought it would be from a rock getting thrown up into it!! I must have been going fast in a turn to make a rock fly through a pretty hard piece of plastic!!

  • Are you using a wider tire than stock?
  • Are the wheels you're using a different offset than stock?

This is about the only 2 things that can happen because the stock setup is engineered so there is no interference at both locks....

Do you drive and operate the vette when it is really cold out? I see your in CO, might have had something get thrown at it from the road when it was cold and brittle and just busted a chunk out of it.

After the new part is installed it will make the other parts look nasty and now you'll have to pull the wheels and clean them too!

My Z, ZX2(wife's car) and my Harley are all I drive so the Vette does get driven in cold weather. That is a good observation.

And as for cleaning up the wheel well...... ummmm probably not... I am in LOVE with my Z but it more times than not gets driven 4-5 days in the week.... Wheel well cleaning is not a must for her!

Same deal on my 2000. Looks just the same. I have just been too lazy to search for the part but now I know it won't be some stupid ridiculous price, I will order one up. Thanks for the post.

That happened on the rear of a C4 I once owned. I never did determine what caused it.

I had the whole rear inner fender well blow out after hitting a piece of debris on the highway.
We were on our way to Bowling Green last year.
Cost me about $600 to fix.

Since I had the Z on a lift I took a look at everything on that side of the car... I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
