Default Help with water damage

Hey guys, as everyone knows about IKE that just went thru Houston and the damage that it caused. Well the vette got flooded out. I had parked the car in a garage for the hurricane and the next night parked it in front of the girlfriends house. well it ended up raining even worse and all the street drains were clogged from debris. so the car ended up getting water inside. I woke up in the morning, started the car and moved it to the driveway. After the rain had stopped (3 hrs later) i went out to pull the seats and the carpet out and try to start it. Nothing. i have battery power and the dash lights come on, hear the fuel pump run, but when i go to start, there is not a single sound. i am thinking starter problem. so later on i pulled codes and here is what i came up with:

C1217
C1243
40 BCM - NO COMM
U1000 - LOSS OF COMM UNDETERMINED
U1064 - LOSS OF COMM WITH BCM
U1160 - LOSS OF COMM WITH LDCM
U1176 - LOSS OF COMM WITH RFA
RADIO - NO COMM
B2284
B2276
C2120

the car is a 2000 coupe with 115000 miles. let me know what you think of this and what i can do to maybe fix it myself. I called the insurance co and they said that it is covered but i really do not want to go to the dealership. If you have any questions, let me know. thanks again

Jarek

My guess is the BCM is history. If you had water inside, the BCM is low enough to get wet. Those codes all connect in some way to the BCM.

How deep was the water? Have you tried jump starting it?

The PCM (power control module) is located underneath the battery. As stated, if it got wet, it is probably toast.

Here's a list of codes That won't be very helpful if the PCM is bad.

Sorry to hear that Spoon. I was thinking the neighbors tree was gonna land in my garage and on top of my vert Most of my money this week is going towards gas for my generator due to Ike knocking the power out here. I was one of the lucky ones in my neighborhood and power outage is all that happen to me. About 30 homes as close as a block away from me were not so lucky Hope you get your ride up and running soon !!!!

I really appreciate the replies so far. i figured it would be the PCM/BCM, maybe both. is there a way to test them to see if they are the problem? also if i get both new modules, are they just plug in and go, or do you have to program/ tune them for the specific car?

any other suggestions are welcome!

thanks

I'm no expert in this, but I think you should be able to swap them as long as the module comes from a car with the same type of tranny, A4 or MN6.

How deep did the water get? File the insurance claim man... you pay your deductible and they pay the rest. With a flood car you have no clue how far the water damage will go, esp on a car like a C5 w/ all of the electronics.

I used to be a GEICO adjuster, if the car was flooded to the dash/pcm the car was considered a total loss.

How deep was the water? Did it get into the engine? If so I would write it off and get a new car. You will never fix all the electrical problems that come up. If the water was just deep enought the fry the BCM replace that first. it is behind the right front tire below the battery

I feel your pain my y2k coupe got flooded from Gustav It's at the dealer now with an estimate of about 2k to fix it. The bcm and fuse box were both toast. I did not start it for fear of more damage
to engine and electrical system. File a claim that's what ins. is for
Good luck

Hello, your modules are not plug and play....They must be programed to the car. your best be here is to flat bed it to the dealer and start the insurance claim.....

good luck to you.

I agree with the insurance claim process and get it started right away. If that isn't an option for you, I've never done this and it might not work so with that in mind, you could try to make things go again. Depending on how high the water level was in the car....disconnect the battery, pull the PCM and BCM. Properly ground yourself with a wrist-strap, take them apart and start cleaning them with alcohol...carefully. Might not do any good if something got fried. Don't forget about the EBTCM, SCM and whatever other modules could have been soaked up under the dash. Don't forget the ground packs, and in the case of your no comm for the BCM, the star connector right next to it. The car will not start if the BCM and PCM cannot talk to each other.
I'm sure others will say its not worth the effort and in many ways I agree. You are likely to have serious problems for a long time to come. Feel bad for you.

FYI... If you file on your insurance, you do not have to take it to the dealer for the repair. You can take it to the shop of your choice.
