My outside temp is stuck on 17 and my A/C won't stay on when on auto the light never comes on to show operation. If I push the A/C button it just flashes for 3 or 4 times then stays off. Is it related to the outside temp or are there other things going on.
Head to your local GM dealer and pick up part# 10248414, about $10.
It's your ext temp sensor. When it reads below 38deg, the PCM won't let the comp come on. It's a very common problem. The sensor is under the right front frame rail just next to the radiator. You can get to it by reaching down next to your right headlight. It's held in with a plastic push pin. Very easy fix.

Simple fix, I just did it. Had same symptoms. Go to GM dealer and purchase a new outside air temperature sensor. $11.54. Replace old one on passenger side of car. Lift hood and look down beside your air intake. It's a short wire to it and kind of tricky getting it out. Can be pushed out from under the air dam also. Unplug old and replace new. Be sure to use dialectic grease as it is probably corroded. Then run car between 25 and 40 mph for 90 seconds. The temp will drop in 1 degree increments to -15 and then start back up until it reaches the correct outside temperature.
Good point GreenDream. I forgot to mention that you have to drive the car a minimum of 16mph for a minute or two, in order for the HVAC to "read" the new sensor.
