Default Help with C5 Automatic - PLEASE!!

My 1998 C5 just lost 3rd and 4th gears. Reverse is solid and it will start hard in 1st and shift normally to 2nd. After that, it just stays stuck in 2nd gear with no 3rd or 4th. Of course, it also heats up to 250 deg. and gives me a warning light if I keep trying for 3rd gear.

I just had the trans power flushed and the filter replaced at the local dealer about 3,000 miles ago. At that time, I was told that everything looked perfect. The car has 117,000 easy miles on it and has never been raced. The transmission has been serviced regularly and has never shown any kind of problems or odd readings before this. Right now, I have the car parked until I can figure out what is wrong.

I would take it to a transmission shop or dealer, but their answer is always the same: "You need a new transmission!".

Has anyone ever worked on one of these? As I recall, this is an electronic transmission with solenoid valves on the main valve assembly. Is it possible that one of these has just gone bad?

Any help and advice would be appreciated before I go and drop thousands on a tranny that I don't really need.

Thanks in advance.......

Mine did the same thing on Saturday, almost made me sick. After researching it looks like you do need a transmission or a rebuild, the 3 & 4th clutch pack goes out (I think that is what its called). I have been in contact with RPM it seems that they are the most trusted and strongest trans that people use. Good luck
