Default ?? on my new 99

K, just got my 99 and have a few small problems that I want to see if anyone can answer. There is a small panel in the interior that is missing. Not sure if it just a cover, or is supposed to have a switch. It is located just to the left of the ignition, probably about 2x2 inches.

the telescopic wheel button is also broken, can a new one just snap in?? the motor works as the wheel moves on the easy out function.

I also have a rattle that sounds like it is coming from the passenger corner of the targa top.

I have already found how to fix the steering wheel squeak on here, and am going to try that this week.

Hello,
first I recommend that you fill out your profile so that we know where you're located. It will make it easier to help you down the line.

The little area on the dash that you are describing sounds like the cover for the interior temperature sensor. Should be a small black vented cap that goes over that hole. Look around the car to make sure it didn't fall of somewhere. If you can't find it, try posting a WTB thread in the parts section. Lots of folks have replaced those pieces with carbon fiber or other after market and may have one to sell you.

I couldn't offer any advice on the steering wheel switch without seeing a picture. If you don't know how to post pictures, go to the help forum for a tutorial. It will come in handy in the future.

Try removing your targa and make sure all hardware on the top is tight. If not, do a search for a top adjustment procedure.

Good luck

There are a couple of threads that you should check out. The first is the Weights, Measurements, Etc. here in C5 Gen and the other is the Ultimate DIY in C5 Tech. They both contain a ton of info on questions that I'm sure will arise down the road.

This would be your HVAC sensor cover:

You may be able to find it at a boneyard much cheaper.

Try Gene Culley at gm parts warehouse for a plain black HVAC cover that is probably cheaper than that Carbon Fiber one...

You can get the switch and temp cover from Gene Culley as mentioned. The switch is fairly easy to replace and the cover just snaps on easily.
