Default 6 speed fix

Hello,
I have a 99 with only 42K miles on it. I say "only" figuring that's low mileage?? Anyway I have a question:

When I let the car sit for a few days the clutch 'feel' feels kinda soft. After driving for several miles the 'feel' gets back to normal. That's the first thing and the second corresponding thing I experience is that the clutch pedal will stay "in" if I keep it depressed like at extended stops and such. Sooooooooooooo, do I have a mechanical problem. I am not literate on terminology. Is there a master cylinder or something that is going bad? If so does any one know what it costs approx. to replace them? I've done the replace the cylinder fluid and that helped some but the problem in essence still persists. I'm figuring the car is 10 years old, it's HOT in that engine compartment and I live in Florida so maybe the mechanical contraption whatever it is has worn out??

Common problem

do a search for "clutch pedal woes"

and check out this link:

You say you've changed the fluid, but you have to change it a dozen times to really get it clear.

At least. With 46K mine was more like 2 dozen or so.

And you say you've seen an improvement, but the problem still pains you at times?

I'm going to guess that the mechanical components got exposed to dirty fluid for too long and are dirty or worn inside. It's possible that driving a few hundred miles and changing the fluid again will help it.

I know I've read threads where people have had to replace the slave.

Default spongy/cantankerous clutch pedal

Thank you for the responses. But.....................

1. I did the fluid replacement. I did it by the way of the "author" you mentioned. In fact I visited his web site and did it exactly the way he directed.
2. I did do it the dozen or so times even though the fluid was clear. Better to be safe than sorry.
But................ the spongy/soft feel at initial startup after sitting a few days and the 'staying depressed' clutch pedal after driving for awhile and then depressing at extended stops is still happening.

so now what?????????????

Try a new slave cylinder. As long as you have it apart replace the disc and have the flywheel resurfaced (cheap insurance).

Have you noticed it slipping at all?

I replaced my slave with a GM part from the dealer, and still the same problems a year later once again. I'm not about to pay another $1500 parts/labor yet, I'll wait till the tranny needs a rebuild.

I had the problem in my 97 as well. I installed a Spec stage 3+ clutch and PP, TOB and slave cylinder at the same time. Pedal feels perfect now. Unfortunately I don't know which item fixed it since I did them all at the same time.

Replace the master cylinder and make sure you get the line bleed and you should be fine.

By the responses so far it appears I am going to have to replace mechanical parts - slave and or cylinder?? By the one response it appears I might be entertaining a cost of $1500crazy:
I am asking so I can be prepared to call a couple of places and know how to compare prices??
