Yesterday I put new tires on the front (only) and on the way home the Traction Control system went active while driving straight, on the freeway. I had to manually de-activate it from the button on the center console in order to keep the vehicle from stopping completly. I immeditalely associated the problem with the new tires, thinking they did something to one of the speed sensors. When I went back today I talked with a guy who "seemed" to know something about the car. He stated the problem lie in the fact that I now have two different types of tires on the car; one with a softer rubber compound (Treadwear rating of 150) vs a harder one with the new tires (Treadwear rating of 320). While I think he's not entirely accurate, and may be trying to sell me a second set of tires for the rear, I am wondering if mixing tires could be throwing the sensors off in some way (there was no indication anything was damaged upon removing and inspecting the wheels/hubs). Can anyone shed any light on this problem? THanks.
David
The (old) rear tire size is 295/35ZR18 and the (new) front tire size is 255/45ZR17
