Same price.... A higher mile 02 Z or a pretty low mile 01Z? Is it worth buying an 01 with the 385hp and possible ring issue or just go with a higher mile 02 and play it safe? Explain your choice

I need a little more info... how many miles on each, and what prices? Without knowing that, I *generally* would prefer an 02-04 over an '01 for the extra 20 HP and the HUD, and I would need a huge mileage difference between the two before the '01 became favorable to me at the same price point.

Say the 02 has 70k & the 01 had about 1/2 that

I have an '01 and it's been great! Many have been "rewrung".....so that may help in your search. Just make sure that whatever year you decide to buy...that that vette checks out and it's the right vette for you.

That is a no brain er, go with the 01, my 01 went 12.3 at 115 bone stock, on the F1's, I never saw any difference in times with 02's. 385 was just a rating, all LS6's are pretty even

Get the 01, yank the engine and put a forged 427. Game over.
If you want to compare C5Zs, just look at the C5Z fast list.
The 02s and up are faster, but if you are going to mod, the difference is insignificant.

I have an '01

And I worked at a Corvette only dealership so I've driven every year Zo6...

My '01 felt just as strong as the '02+ cars... almost zero difference...

I'd buy another '01 in a heartbeat against an '02 for the same money if I felt the '01 was a better color with better care.

Get the one that calls to you.

its a buyers market out there.. There are a lot of low mileage cars out for sale.. Would you consider spending 24k? Another 3-4k will open a whole lot of doors on low mileage 2002 models. Just my .02 I'd stay away from an 01 because of all the oil issues as well as a lower horsepower and torque rating,, Thats just me.. Lots of 01 owners will disagree.. When I sold my 99 coupe and was looking at a 2001-2002 Z06 I asked a local well respected Corvette Performance Shop owner what his opinion was on the 2001,, He said run Forest Run.. That did it for me.. I'm happy with my 2002 Z.. There are plenty of really nice 01 Z's out there with absolutly no problems.. The performance is a little better on the 02-04.. Ragnar ran a 11.8 @ 117 on his bone stock original tire 02 Z

Thanks for the good input so far guys. I am leaning more towards the 02. My reasons are one, its a forum members car with a history report, two the color, three the price is good. Another member is checking the car out for me since I'm a couple of states away. When he gets back to me with his impressions, that will help me make a decision on this particular car.

Went went with an 01 Z. I do have a slight ring issue but nothing major. I bought mine due to its COLOR though... I really wanted a Z06 but the SW is what made me choice the 01!!

Other than that I think other than the slight "upgrades" all the Z's are pretty close to the same. Although I have heard the 04s have better shocks.

Buy the Z that you love more. find something!!
