Hi I need advice from You , i want to change the stock radio with double din unit that has :
build in sat nav - tomtom or garmin based so i can buy maps of europe and just go, i don`t want a dvd based, must have hdd or sd card slot for maps etc
I like pioneer looks but there are so many model to choose from.
Any sugestions ? WIll pioneer take garmin eastern europe map and work with it ?
I found radios that can do it but they are china or hong kong made nobrand units :/
Double DIN units will not fit our cars unless you buy a mdified bezel and lower the ac controls. Typically, you lose the ash tray if you convert over to one of these modified bezels. Do a search on double din and you will find some pics from guys that have made the switch. My brother has a pioneer avic unit that works great, best nav I've ever used. I think it is a dvd based system though.
Good luck.
Just giving a heads up. Contrary to popular belief on here, the bezel WILL have to be modified to allow fit for a double din, HOWEVER!, having to move the AC unit lower and losing the ashtray is not absolutely necessary. I have seen it done on here. It requires more work. You have to trim more of the top of the bezel and fill the sides but IT definitely CAN be done! Do a search, find the 50th anniversary car with the double din, it looks better then factory!
Hi, thanks for answers, i red a lot about modifications necessary , it`s not a problem. The most important thing is will it accept maps from garmin or tomtom on sd card or onto hdd drive.
Dream catchers ...??? and what is in that cup..Voodoo stuff...how can you even see with that junk hanging there ( must be a girls Vette ). Did you ever consider removing the dream catchers before you took the photos...so we could see the Nav unit...????
haha thast the funniest thing I have ever read, have you ever used a kenwood dbl din with the garmin navi its far easier to use then any of the other units
Having owned several different manufacturers portable GPS units, I think the Garmin is pretty much the best so if I were going to do a double din dash unit I would go with the Kenwood just because they use Garmin............Just my $1.00-98 worth.
