Hi There:
I think that the air filter was changed & thats when the problem started. When you close the hood the shock that occurs releases the clips on the air box. I would pull the air box out & make sure that the clips are properly installed at the bottom side of the air box. Remove the air intake first.Loosen the clamps(rubber accordion type hose). Lift up to pop off the rubber grommets one on each side. Disconnect the maf sensor connector, disconnect the rubber hose where they join together on the drivers side of the air box. Remove the air box by pulling straight towards the rear of the car and not by pulling upward. Tip: spray the two rubber grommets with wd-40 at the bottom of the air box to ease in the removal. The rubber grommets may pop-off. Watch where they go.You will see where the strap clips are installed into the bottom of the a/box.If the straps are bent out of shape you may have to use duck tape to secure them so they remain tight.

Now that you mention this.I have no rubber grommets where the airbox meets the bumper down low.I think this had another set-p and was removed. The MAF clamp is gone also.It had a pinch clamp but popped off.
The only way to get mine to stay engaged was to bend the top part of the srtap different ways until it held firmly. I focused the bending around where the srrap is already bent, again up near the top (where the plastic handle is)

It sounds like the previous owner "demodded" the car before he unloaded it.
The rubber grommets are available from GM. Maybe you should thoroughly check the car over (or have someone knowledgeable do so) for other missing pieces. Then place an order with Gene of GMPARTSHOUSE, a site supporting vendor.
If you increase the bend in each clip near where it bends over the top of the airbox your problem is solved; meaning bend it further down toward the airbox. One minute fix with two pliers!
