Default Cam question

I was thinking about putting a FMS custom grind cam in my 03 Z and was just wondering whether anybody is running one of these. The specs are 228/230 .576/.595 114 LSA. I know it is not a "drag race" style cam however, the guy told me it should pick up 60hp to the wheels! Does this sound about right?

it all depends on your current mods and tune... with all of the bolt ons i dyno'd 385 RWHP... after Fast 90mm and TB 90mm a similar cam and tune i picked up about 50 RWHP. wasnt really looking for peak numbers just a broader power band.

Yeah I understand what you're saying. With longtubes and an intake I am at 375hp and 358 torque. I really don't care about horsepower because I don't plan on going 200mph anytime soon so the torque is what I really care about like you said it is all about the broader power band. Also, do you have any problems with the stock clutch? Because now when I get on it, I have a problem with the clutch sticking.

Thats what I was thinking...I didn't think such a small cam could make so much power.

With a cam and supporting mods you should make around 420-430. I made 410tq with a cam and all supporting mods not including heads. And yes you will definitly have to get a new clutch. LS6 clutches suck once you start modding your Z06. They will constantly stick at WOT.

sounds like the F11 cam from FMS....good cam makes good power...I had the F13 in my old HCI ws6....i would go with the F13 it makes more power and drives almost exactly the same....specs on mine were 230 232 585 595 113+2 made 448rwhp with a steel driveshaft heavy 18in wheels and a 12 bolt rear with 390 gears
either way good luck with your decision...right now i got a 236 238 601 605 113+2 and I can honestly say....its driveable but gets on my nerves....still working on the tuning though so I wont give the verdict until Im done with the tuning...heading to the dyno monday to see what kind of numbers i put down as I have WOT fueling pretty good...still going to work on part throttle fueling and driveability issues after that

That sounds like where I want to be at. As far as clutch goes which one did you go with. I know quite a few people on the forum go with the LS7 clutch.

I upgraded my clutch LS7 kit from SPDC and replaced the master to a Mcleod billet style one. I had my clutch pedal getting stuck too. They told me i was caused by dirt and debris in the fluid.

if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for labor because i know a clutch job on these cars is insane
