Drove from Northern Ohio to Southern WV this past weekend got 25.9 MPG How often should I clean my K&N airfilter. I might average 28.9MPG. What interval for cleaning do most of you use?
I clean mine when it's dirty. I'm not trying to be smart a**, but under some conditions and locations (I'm in AZ), it'll get dirty quicker than other times...windy, dusty, falling leaves, bugs, etc.
Otherwise, I clean mine with every other oil/filter change...usually about 10,000 miles.
I put a blackwing filter in my vette last month, before when I had the stock filter in the car I could get 30-31 mpg now with the blackwing filter I only get 25.5 mpg.
It was clean when I got it, I just oiled it and put it in(so it was'nt dirty)WTF.
I wish I could get more mpg out of it, maybe the processor has to recallibrate itself to my type of driving.
I don't know why people don't just stay with the stock air filters to begin with. If they get dirty, you just throw them away. Over time, oiled filters clog quicker and allow more dirt to pass into the engine. I don't see any advantage.

I put on a blackwing, my mileage did not go down if anything it went up slightly. The reason most people change the intake is because the stock setup is so restrictive. You get more air flow with the aftermarket intakes and more air = more HP. And for me its the convience of never having to buy a filter again. Just clean it and put it back on. The only downside (and this is debateable), is some people say the permanent filters allow more air and more dirt through the filter.
