I'm asking this because I truely dont know but, does the pinstripe on wheels have to be painted or can you use the pinstripe for like you car body? My wheels are black and i was thinking about ofsetting the tone of the car with a thin pinstripe around the outter lip of the wheels? any info would be appreciated.
thanks

I have seen it done both ways. Most wheel manufacturers paint it on. We mask and then paint.
There have been a couple local guys in my area though that did the pinstripe tape stuff and it look decent.
Andy, you always come through, thanks alot for the info. New wheels and all i dont want to make it look like ,
Hey, by the way ran some older vid's in the youtube place yesterday and came up with one you made of your car before the wheel change etc, nice! And nice touch with your signature on the car!!
thanks again

When I did my C4 wheels I used the stripe kits you can buy from the sellers on Ebay. They are available in all radii, color, and two widths. They come in 4 pieces for each wheel.
Since they are for a motorcycle there are enough for 4 wheels because you'd do BOTH sides on the bike.
Thanks for the replies, thats what i'm looking for, you got any pointer on the best way to achieve good results? like when you get all the way around the wheel do you just overlap the stripe or what? This is the way i'm going to go, not sure if i'm going to go red ,flat black or carbon fiber , this is all just the starting thinking stage.
thanks again
Chris
I have a feeling you will be replacing that tape fairly often due to peeling. If it were me I would use that same tape as masking (or better yet buy fine line masking tape) and paint on the stripe. Just my.02 good luck.

I used the vinal pin stripes I bought for my local autoparts store. Its been on the rims now for a year, NO PEELING. When I installed the stripe, I actually had the rims sitting on my tool box, with no tires mounted them. The over lap of the stripe is only about 1 inch. I told myself, when they start to peel off, I would paint them on. Well, looks like this will hold up for a long time. Let me know if you need some close up pictures.
I would overlap if you are going to use stripe tape. As added insurance when I used to pinstripe the sides of cars I would take a little clear and dob it on the end of the stripe. You should put a little clear on overlap of tape to hold it down better. You could use clear nail polish also. Not casting aspersions here..
