Need help - Electrical / Gauges problem
I have a 2001 Coupe 48k miles A4 - all stock
This past Tuesday I was driving and all of a sudden the radio went off , i couldn't close my windows and the gauges on my car went nuts gas, oil pressure and water temp did not work . DIC was reading the following :
Service vehicle soon
Service Traction System
Service Tire Pressure
Service Active Handling
Service Tire monitor System
Low Fuel ( had over 1/2 a tank)
Security Light was on
then all of a sudden radio came on and windows worked
I immediately took it to my mechanic - he turned the car off - then turned it on and all was well - he suspected a loose battery cable so he tightened them up.
Problem didn't happen again till this morning on our way to Mystic, Ct for the Vette Cruise. Then it hapeened a couple more times on the way home from Ct. Each time if I turn the car off it starts right up and all appears normal. Car seems to run fine when all of tis is going on too.
Anyone have an idea / fix of whats going on here ?
OK I'll give this a shot, Open the drivers door, you will see an accordion tube between the door and door pillar. Pull the tube from the pillar and door. Inside will be a large bundle of wires, fish the bundle out of the door pillar and there are plugs, unplug and clean with contact cleaner. Plug them in again, turn the key on and see if the windows go up/down. If they do start the car and make sure everything is good to go. You can also check the codes write them down and clear them. You should only have H codes now. Put everything back. The problem seems to be common ( I had it this spring) everything goes through the drivers door, I'll bet you have LDCM codes along with a batch of no communication codes. It took me about 2 hours of reading Bill Currlees thread in the stickies and 20 min to fix it. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=896875 There's a wealth of knowledge in that thread, happy reading. Bill
Have you replaced your OEM battery yet? I just did mine yesterday after 5 years as I had some dimming display problems. But talked with two Corvette friends just today who both said when their batteries were going bad, they had all these wacky things and readings happening on things wrong. Probably why your mechanic checked the cables.
