Default New wheels for non run-flats?

I was talking to a guy today at work who has a 98 c5, (mine's a 2000), and somehow tires came up and how expensive run-flats are. I said that I will probably just go with some summer performance tires when the time comes and he said I would have to get new wheels as well then because only run-flats fit on my factory 5-spokes. I had never heard that or read that anywhere on here. It didn't make sense to me that there is another tire on the planet that fits those wheels. What's the truth?

Your friend is utterly retarted.

Buy whatever tire you want.

Your coworker is incorrect, at least as your C5 is concerned.

There are some cars that have funky wheel sizes that only accept a corresponding runflat. The Nissan Quest is one that comes to mind.

Ok, thanks guys, that's what I thought, but the guy says he has owned four corvettes or whatever so I dunno. One more question, I don't have to mess with the tire pressure monitors if I'm just changing the tire right? Only if I change the rims correct?

I agree.

The tires don't matter -- the size does.

Buddy of mine has a stock 2000 (just like mine) with stock rims...running 295/35 rears and 255/40 fronts, non-rf's...no error codes, no problems...

As has already been said, you don't have to change rims to get away from the runflats. I went with Cooper tires in the stock C5 sizes originally when I replaced my runflats (eventually I went with CCW wheels and wider tires for personal preference).

Keeping the tire pressure sensors with the non-runflats is perfectly fine and highly recommended. That way you know when you start having tire issues (for example, just last week when I got in my car I had a warning that my RR tire pressure was low. Checked the tire and found a screw in it). Wouldn't have known without the TPS system still active with my non-runflats.

Your friend knows nothing about the car. Non-runflats will work just fine.

He probably goes to the dealer for all his service and they've been taking advantage of him for that entire time.

Don't be "that guy". Buy whatever tires you like.
