Default Willow Springs

Anyone ran WillowSprings big track, if so what tires and mods and what time did you run. The Pantera club has a weekend track event the 1st week in november with plenty of openings....

I run a stock '03 Z. The stock car can handle more than most drivers will be willing to push it. I'm not fast at all (chicken), I'll run low 1:40s when the road is clear. I've seen a stock '03 Z run low 1:30s. Race tires will help if you make a mistake.

See you there, I'm the yellow one.

I did it back in Jan; my car was stock at the time with ps2's. I did not time it either. But it was a great time. I did pass some cars so I was not last. heheehe. I am assuming that I had just regular non synthetic brake fluid, and I was getting brake fade in turn 5 towards the end of my runs.

Sorry mate the site is POCA, but the quickest way is to call Jim Saxton at 626 285-2024. He'll send you the application with details. All you need is a helmet that's shnell 2000, I think, and the car has to be free of leaks etc. On the panteras they make you run the radiator overflow behind the rear wheels but they are very light on the tech insp. It's a super safe event with 4 run groups according to ability. Don't go in the slowest. Passing is only allowed on the 2 straights unless you run in group 1. You'll love it. There's a cheap but nice hotel 3 miles to the track, the Devenshire Inn...

Thanks for the reply. I tried calling the number and the phone just kept ringing. I will try the SoCal chapter of POCA to see what I can find. I have a red 2003 Z06 that doesn't drop any oil, but there are some seepage at the transaxle area. I also need to find a helmet. I suppose a motorcycle helmet will suffice. If anything, can I just pay an admission and watch ? Thanks, again......

Finally got a hold of Jim Saxton. He emailed me all the pertinent info, and was real friendly about adding Corvettes to the roster. I am a little hesitant about adding a permantly mounted fire estinguisher, so I may just show up to check out the situation.

That part is easy, just go down and buy a little fire extinguisher from Home Depot with a METAL mounting bracket and tiewrape it under the passenger seat with a black tiewrap. They'll just glance at it. It's only 10 bucks to get in to spectate and lunch time you can drive around the track for an hour for free. The speed limit is 55 but in some turns that's fast.....See you out there. I'll probably be in a little Toyota World Sports Racer or my 04 Lemans vett.....I'm a beginner too.

I went to VetteWorks and bought their bracket and an inexpensive fire extinguisher. I don't want any hassles with the tech guys. I know my Z06 has an insignificant oil leak under the transmission that only collects road dirt with no dripping on the ground. Do you think this will be a problem ? Should my wife bring her minivan for the lawn chairs/ice chest/tool box storage, or do most just show up in one car ? It will be great to see you there, I have a red 2003 Z06.......Thanks for any reply

Don't worry about the leak, like I said as far as new cars are concerned they don't hardly look. Yeah bring the whole family, motorhome , tents. It's a huge place with acres of space. I will be there on friday which is open testing. I will probably run my toyota, because friday testing has to be real racecars. But having said that, Willow wants your money and they never ever look at the cars. However if they see you don't have a roll bar they might send you off. But that's only friday. Saturday it's run what you brung. Get there early if you are going to run the event and parking is first come first serve. If you are just gonna spectate then park anywhere also.take a mountain bike too, if you like to ride around the trails.....

There is a good enough snack bar there, and it is good to bring chairs. If you can fit it in one car that is all you need. You are in the desert, you may need all types of clothes. It could be cold, it could be hot, it could be very windy. Chapstick.

I believe we all have to unload items from our trunks( tools, etc) to run the track. How do we secure these items while we are on the track ? Are you going to stay at the Devonshire Inn in Rosmond ?

You forgot to mention that it could rain in the desert.....!!! :-0
Had to hang up anything that absorbed water in the room at the Devonshire Inn with the heater on high to dry out after the Saturday monsoon. I did find out how well the Vredestein tires work in the rain during the many attemps to dry the track out. You forgot to mention that you have to run with both your windows down, pretty interesting in the rain.
But I had a blast on Sunday, clear sky, and dry track. I wish now that I would have made some notes of what cars people in this thread said they were bringing. I would have liked to introduce myself. Oh well, maybe next time.......

I've been attending that event, November and March, and this is the first time we actually had to miss some sessions due to rain. Sun day was great. All kinds of clothes includes rain gear. I left my umbrella at the hotel. My dry clothes were in the car. I was in the cafeteria. Having Dallas Raines there didn't help much with the forecasting.

The folks behaved themselves well. Very few went off the track. See you next time.

Shame on me for not making some notes about the contacts I had here on the forum. I think I remember a yellow 95, but I am sure you were in one of the other groups. Next time, I promise to look you up. I was kind of surprised that all the Vettes parked around us, none of them uses this forum. I guess they aren't computer guys. The other forum member said he might bring some Toyota, instead of his Vette. I am not sure what a Toyota WSR even looks like. I did see a radical looking race Toyota with TRD on the side, that thing was a rocket ship....!!
