Do I really need oil?
Since our C5s are built by the hand of god, can I save money and fill it up with something like maple syrup? That's pretty viscous and cheap? No long term damage, right?

let's see - a gallon of Maple Syrup is about $34, which is close to what a case of Mobile One goes for...

syrup caramelizes at 215 - 235 degrees so I doubt if it's a good idea

This would be great in a dinner too! You take your plate of pancakes over to the Vette and get hot syrup on them!
