Default New Oil Filter from GM

Here is the latest news that we have learned from GM Powertrain.

GM’s HIGH PERFORMANCE - HIGH PRESSURE OIL FILTER IS BACK

GM Powertrain has released a new oil filter for the 2009 Corvette. The new design UltraguardTM Gold UPF48R oil filter will be used on the following OEM applications:

Z06 - LS7 7.0L and ZR1 - LS9 6.2L

According to GM, this filter was designed with the following in mind: “With the addition of piston oil cooling nozzles and other unique lubrication system requirements, a new design dual-rotor oil pump is required for the LS9 application. The new design oil pump produces greater volume and higher system oil pressure. To meet those requirements, a new oil filter with higher BURST strength is required.

The UltraguardTM Gold UPF48R filter (U is for Ultra and R is for Racing) is black in color, has a thicker exterior shell and can be identified as GM part number 12626224. The internal components are the same in both the UPF48R and the PF48 oil filters. The UPF48R can be used in applications where the PF48 is specified.”

GM requires the UPF48R for the LS9 application and is also used for the LS7 application as both engines are built at GM’s Wixom Engine Performance Build Center.

Members, Tell your friends that you can use this new UltraguardTM Gold UPF48R filter (part number 12626224) with all 2007, 2008 and 2009 C6 Corvettes that stipulate the use of GM’s PF48 oil filter, if you desire this new higher burst strength racing design.

...so nothing for C5/Z06 LS1/LS6 applications? I don't figure I'll ever own a C6 anything.
Did you intend this to be in the C6 forums?

Sounds kewl but I don't see the application of LS1 or LS6 in there? I will certainly pass this on to my friends who own C6 and C6 Zs.

The oil filter is technically not new.

AC Delco has had the UltraGuard brand for years. The UPF48R is specific to the new Z06 and ZR1 engines.

I have been selling the UltraGuard filters, UPF44's, for a few years now... and they're always in my specials list..

My post was originally posted in the "Canadian" section. It might have been moved to the "C5 General" section.

UPF44 is all I have ever used on my LS1 in the five years I've owned it.

I changed the oil today on my 09 Z06 at 1500 miles. The factory installed filter was a PF48, not the UPF48R. I installed a Mobil1 M-113.

I had been using DELCO UPF44 filters on my C5, but switched to NAPA Gold or WIX (same filter) and my cold oil pressure went up 15 psi. Since the C5 oil pressure sensor is after the filter, more pressure means more flow. I found that UPF44 and Mobil 1 filters filter too good, at the expense of pressure/flow.
