Default CF Intake Cover Installation

Just purchased a new Carbon Fiber intake cover and was planning on installing this weekend. Anyone install one of these ? What is the difficulty level of this job. I was reading through some of the instructions I got online from the manufacturer - and it states to Depressurize the system by removing the fuel tank cap - disconnect the negative battery cable - install a pressure release style fuel pressure gauge onto the fuel rail pressure test port and place a bleed hose into a fuel safe container, open the valve on the gauge bleeding the system pressure - then remove the fuel rail. No need to remove the fuel feed line. I'm assuming the fuel feed line is the bar that runs across the top of the intake from one cover to the other. Are all these steps necessary ? Tell me what you think.

I got your PM, I have this one but it was on the car when I bought it - sorry I couldn't be of more help.

It will look awesome when you get it on though...

I just ordered one as well and it actually shipped today. I recently replaced my LS6 intake with a ported one and did not have to do all that haha. I am betting the we will simply have to remove the fuel injectors (WHILE STILL ON THE RAILS) and bam good to go.

Mine was a two piece unit so I didn't have to worry about that.

Otherwise, I'd go with teddyca's comment and lift the rail with the injectors attached. I don't know if there is a specific method for that so post up when you get it done. Good luck!

The "fuel feed line" the instructions are referring to is the flexible braided metal hose that connects to the driver's side fuel rail. (It slots into the long slice in the driver's plastic fuel rail cover.)

You will just unclip the electrical connectors for the fuel injectors and remove the (4) bolts holding the rail down.... and the injectors and rail all pull upwards off the intake... you can rotate the entire fuel rail with the metal line connected. No need to worry about it.

Keep in mind- when the injectors come out, grit accumulated over time will want to contaminate the bores where you'll need to re-install the injectors... Spend time to clean everything gently/carefully with WD-40 and a rag. be gentle when re seating the injectors into the bores again... the 4 bolts will help pull the rail down, but don't force anything, you'll have to angle one or two injectors by hand to get them aligned correctly to fully seat. No big deal.

Also, it's wise to lube (you can be a bit liberal with WD-40) the fuel injector o-rings when installing. If you are careless you will tear an o-ring. I had one come off the injector and couldn't find it. I had to visit 4 different dealerships with no luck getting a new one. I ended up finding it at NAPA.

Wait until you have to take off the throttle body. I had one of those as well and it was a pain in the ***. You should get your intake carbon fiber painted. There is a term for that but I cant think of it.

You are referring to Hydrocarbonfiber. I think the cover if it is a perfect fit will look just as good. You do need to be careful with them orings and if need to be replace take your *** to the hardware store. I bought a set from the dealer (not sold individual) and it was well over $100 Yep get the wife to hold that rail for you and all is well. I am going to prime and paint my rail gloss black when it is away from the engine.
