Just bought my brand new 02 EB Z06 and on the way home my windshield got smacked with a rock! :mad I was wondering if anyone else has had to replace their windshield and if there is anything I need to know? Anything I need to watch out for when they replace the glass, the correct part #, or anything that could be helpful. Thanks
Just be sure you get a windshield for a Z06, and not a standard C5 .. the Z06 windshield is a little thinner, and (more important) has a special layer to reduce ghosting for the HUD display.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Had to be a real bummer on your new ride.
It seems as though no one a round here has any idea what a Z06 is. The windshield doesn't even come up on any over their computer systems. So, I am just praying that they get the right one. They didn't even believe that it had HUD  ! I had to send them a picture of it!

That's a little scary! I'll bet you could call the service dept at a larger dealership and get the part number for the Z06 windshield.
Look at the insignia on the glass - make sure they match it when the new glass comes in -
It is thinner (Temper-lite I believe it says, I will have to look when I get home) and it also has a special "anti-lacerative" layer that assists the HUD by giving a sharper reflected image.
Be sure they get OEM glass. Drivers window was scratched on my new Z06. Dealer had glass company replace it. They used PPG replacement first two times. Got OEM glass third time and it is OK now. Almost 3 months to get it right. Glass does have manufacturers name stamped on it.
The Z06 windshield is very different and must be a factory part. It is about 2500 to 3000 US for the part. They are scarce. Have the windshield replaced at the dealers premises by a reputable glass installer - dealer should know who is good. Let it sit overnight for the glue to bond properly also. That is the best way.
It sure is a bummer to have this happen on the way home after just taking delivery.
I do not live to far from you and our dealership sells a few corvettes, I would certainly inquire with them and get you some information if you need further assistance.
Ever since I have had my Z06, the HUD has been blurry/double-vision. The tech at the dealer says I need a new winshield because the current one has inconsistent thickness. I will be getting mine replaced in the spring. I remember someone else telling me to make sure that they replace the weatherstripping around the glass or it might leak.
hey jbalch, i'm glad to hear that there is another Z06 in the area that gets on Corvette forum! I didn't think there would be anyone in the area. If you ever cruise through Ruidoso maybe we could get together.
Tell them to just look up the windshield for a Y37 body style. I order them all the time for our race team. Just ordered one today as a matter of fact. The windshield is only around 1200..
I'll do that, my in-laws have a place at Alto and we go occasionally. Z06's appear to be rather rare in our neck of the woods. Good luck with the windshield!
