I recently purchased a polypropylene cover from Mid America Motorworks for my C5. The cover fits very well, is easy to use and lightweight but it leaves a film on my Vette's exterior especially on thw windows. Any suggestions?
I use the cover indoors. I might try washing the cover as was suggested by JD's 00PewterCoupe. The cover is brand new however.
Still check with the vendor first,, Is it even washable? Maybe if there's an oily film it could damage your washing machine or ruin the next cloths wash,, then your wife will kill you !!
From everybody's responses, I'm probably not describing the problem correctly. It is not an oily film but more of a streaky residue that may be caused by dust or dirt. It is easily removed by washing the car. Because the cover is brand new, I would not expect much dirt to have collected on the cover. Is it possible that dust or dirt can penetrate the polypropylene and if you leave the cover on for a few days the dirt collects on the exterior surface of the car? If anyone has experienced a similar problem please respond. Thanks.
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for helping me with my car cover problem.
Secondly, let me clarify an error that may have misled readers of this thread. The car cover is actually a gray Duralite product ($39.99) that was purchased through Ecklers catalog- not Mid America Motorworks.
I took your sound advice and called the Ecklers technical representative today. When I explained that the cover was leaving a streaky residue on my Vette, he immediately responded that this was most likely due to an excess of waterproofing agent incorporated in the cover itself. He suggested that I put the cover in a washing machine with a cup of Fantastik with a cold water cycle and let it air dry.
My plan is to wash the cover in the next few days, let it dry out and place it on my Vette. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks again for your help.

Don't put the cover in your washer at home. Go to a Laundromat and use one of their big washers. Household washers are not big enough to properly tumble such a large item.
I finally got around to cleaning my car cover with a cup of Fantastik in my household washing machine and guess what- it worked!!!! No more residue on my Vette. Once again, thanks for everyone's interest and help.
