I apologize if this has been asked before, as I don't normally frequent the C5 section (for obvious reasons ) - but I have a good friend who is having issues with the rear window on the convertible top on his 99. He wants to maybe upgrade and replace it with a 02+ top. Does anyone here have any experience with a shop in the Central VA area which they've been satisfied with and would recommend, and maybe what the total cost was? Thanks so much!
Where is your friend located, exactly? I can highly recommend H&M Upholstery in Troy, VA, right off of 64. The owner did a great job installing the top on my '00 this summer. I supplied the parts and be provided the labor, $600, which is quite reasonable for the area. Total cost was roughly $1100. I ordered from Zip Products. The original weather stripping and headliner were reused.
I urge your friend to stay away from original, new, old stock tops. I know the '01+ had some improvements, but the aftermarket ones are one step above in my opinion. The one I bought from Zip is very sturdy. The glass is glued AND stitched in place. The originals were only glued.
I had a shop in Northern VA do mine a few years ago with a Robbins Top. The Robbins top is infinitely better than the stock GM top. THey have a list of reommended installers on their website.
This topic has been brought up many times over the years and Robbins is the way to go from all those who have had GM stock and a Robbins top. The only reason to replace your GM stock with GM stock would be if your still under the GM warranty or your in an accident and insurance requires it.
