Hello everyone I have a funny experience to share while I am sharing it might as well get everyones opinion on it. The other night I was purchasing a 6.0 iron block for my 370 forged bottom end build. While I was talking to the guy and his father who own a shop locally who works on alot of corvettes and deals with alot of corvette owners I was telling them how I was going to be building the motor myself after I got the block machined and the bottom end balanced because I like to know every nut and bolt on my vehicle and I hate paying someone to do something that I can do. I am not rich you know. I was saying that I guess I don't fit the common stereotype of a typical corvette owner. I am 30 married with two kids and I am in the Army. I am just a blue (green collar) guy that loves corvettes and am lucky enough to be able to afford one do to my year long stay in a scenic beautiful sandy location known as Afghanistan. I must say the natives are very friendly !!!!!! They only tried to kill me a couple of times! Well anyway after I said that he made the comment and your not a d--k either. Kind of made me laugh and made me think also. The guy I was talking to is a member on the LS1 TECH forum. I explained to him how awesome the guys are on this forum and how we go out of our way to help each other out when someone is need and that not all corvette owners think they are better than everyone else with a stuck up attitude. I like cameros and trans ams hell I have a 1979 trans am and I don't think less of people who drive either one of those cars and in my opinion anyone with a love of cars is all right in my book. I have read some previous posts on here from people who do talk trash about cameros and trans ams who think that they are better because they own a corvette, but I really do think they are the minority. Just wanted to share and see what everyone else thought. Made me step back and think about how people view us and how we act toward other people. So all that being said please don't thrash me too hard for my spelling I do the best I can with a GED good enough deploma! So what are your thoughts! Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post. Jason
MOST Corvette owners are douche bags I think. I wish I could elaborate but, I don't want to get myself in to too much trouble. Most Corvette owners do not do their own work to their car either. Look at what some of the vendors are selling on this site. You could do a search for the same part on the site and find it for so much cheaper.
There are all kinds of people who drive all kinds of cars who can be classified as d**ks. Good and bad everywhere. I have only come across a couple of that kind who were driving Vettes.
Every car scene from ricers to the exotics have their *********. Corvette owners arent any different. Ive come across a few Corvette owners in person that are that way. Best thing to do is just be polite and go about your business.
First, Thank You for protecting me and my loved ones, Second, nice av! , third, enjoy your ride and as im sure you learned there are clowns in every circus, just laugh the sh#$ty ones off

Most everyone I've met with the exception of ONE, a complete AZZwhole, have been the best.
You don't have to drive a Corvette to be a d!ck, and you definitely don't have to be a d!ck to drive a Corvette. I consider myself to be a nice enough guy, and others agree, but some don't. I have been stereotyped by many I've come across JUST BECAUSE I drive a Vette. To them, I can only say, I got my Vette because of hard work and good timing, and because it's a great car all around. I had no interest in owning a Vette until my neighbor, a C4 owner, convinced me that they could be had for less than the Infinity G35 Coupe I first had my sites set on.
I invest no level of self into the negative stigma, and enjoy myself. In cases where others care to indulge themselves in admiring and/or playing with the car on the streets, I enjoy myself giving them enjoyment as well.
Can't wait to pay this car off so I can experience the stigma of owning a used Vette AND a used Benz!

Depends on the area but probably true for the most part
every croud has them. The funny thing is I have seen some C6 Z06's that were really cool then the other night I seen a seen a orange C5 Z06 and he was a total jerk. Oh well I still waved
From what I see the vette enthusist are not the average joe who has isn't usually seems to be. You know the ones that won't throw a wave have the windows up, top on and both hands on the wheels looking straight ahead starring out to nowhere.
I think for the most part corvette owners are nice people. The long term owners. The ones that seem to be d**ks are the short term owners who bought the car only to get attention. I am always amazed at the amount of people that go out of their way to help another owner they do not even know..
He's right to an extent. Most new Corvette owners are just old men with too much retirement money, often called 'checkbook racers.' They don't know the first thing about their car other than how to drop it off at a race shop, bitch about everthing the tech does, and then writes a big check for the effortless power they now have. They will drive the car directly to the Hooter's meet and demand a trophy since they spent more money in mods than the next guy. That is where the dicky image comes from. Luckily C5s have been around for over 10 years now and cost less than a new Accord or Mustang, so 'regular' people can afford them. Therefore, the 'prestige' mentality is really no longer valid. There's still a few C5 owners who bought their cars new and still think they drive Ferraris, but the dickiness has faded off for the most part.
On a side note, dicks can be found driving anything. From my experience with other car clubs, BMW guys are some of the coolest TRUE enthusiasts I've come across. It may be a shock to some, but those are the guys you want to become friends with at auto-x events. Mustang guys are a mixed bag. Most are young and need to be 'schooled' about common tech, but they are willing to learn. The Mustang d-bags are usually the old rednecks who are stuck in the 80s and can't accept the fact that technology has produced a better car in the past 25 years.
Yea, some are but that's no different than any other car cult. I think Vette owners break down into two basic groups, enthusiast and those who buy them for prestige. You know the one's you see driving in the right lane 10 mpg under the speed limit. But hey they're looking cool in a Vette! We all love the attention the car gets, but some of us (most of us here) buy them for performance. I autox, drag, and track mine. That said I probably fall into the d&^k category - I'm in my 50's and not very mechanically inclined. I can change the tires, the oil and tranny fluid, bleed the brakes, install shocks and catbacks, but replacing a water/fuel pump, etc., or getting into the engine's internals I'll leave to pro's. And though I could probably do them I prefer to leave the brakes to them as well, and given that I race the car brake work is more frequent. Does someone at the shop think me a d*&k? Maybe. Who cares, I'd rather have brakes that work! I do love cars in general. I've owned a bunch of Japanese cars as well as the Audi currently sitting in my driveway, and I also think that's true of most Vette owners.
