Has anyone attempted to affix a new e-brake boot to the wire ring that holds the stock boot in place? I have an aftermarket boot, and it didn't come with a wire ring, so I took the old boot off its own ring by pulling the staples and fishing the wire out.
Now, I've got the wire fished through the new boot, but I can't find anything that will let me staple the rest of the boot around this wire and back onto itself. Standard staples are too small and weak; the larger staple guns don't have a backing plate to "fold the staple. Also, most bigger "standard" staplers have wide bases which won't let me get to half the locations I'd need to put staples at.
Is there a tool for this? Would a hot glue gun work perhaps? Maybe I could buy some snaps and put those on?
I used a standard staple gun. Shot through the boot into some cardboard. Pulled off the cardboard then bent the staples down flat with a tack hammer. Looked like crap but it all gets covered up when you put it back in the car.
