Do many of you take the top off, drive somewhere and leave it off? Or do you put it back on at every stop? I'm a noob, so I don't like to think about it sitting in a parking lot so exposed!

Depends on where I park and for how long.
If I am at a restaurant and I can see my car, no problem.
I wouldn't leave it unattended for any length of time with the Targa off if I wasn't in the immediate vicinity.
The good thing is that it takes less than 30 seconds to take it off or put it on.
If its nice enough to drive with it off, I leave it off as much as possible.
Going in for a slice of pizza, definitly, going in to Home Depot, probably not (grater chance of getting stuck in there looking at more stuff I dont need).
Just FYI if you reach in and open the door after the car has been sitting long enough for the security system to activate the alarm goes off. Not that the security system is much of a deterrent for loosing stuff out of the car, but the vats makes it a little more inconvenient to start it.
Like I said, off as much as possible but not if its out of my sight for more than ten minutes.
I have left mine off. I roll up the windows, and lock anything in the car in the console or glove compartment. I also don't keep any valuables in my car. Yes, birds can happen, but have never happened to me in any of my t-top cars (firebird, 74 vette, and 99 vette) that I have owned. I also treat my leather 1 a week, and could clean pretty much anything that should land on it. If it is a nice day, I tend to leave it off while I do my errands. Now if we are talking about several hours, then I don't. Just depends.
I put it back on,a word of advice: always latch your lid, some people just lay it back in until they come back ,belive me ,you will forget and become a member of the FRC .
my targa gets removed in April, and stays off through November (except when washing the car) . I do not re-install it when parked somewhere.
During the winter months -obviously- the targa stays installed.
I do roll up the windows though. From a short distance - it's difficult to see that the targa is off with the windows rolled up. Plus, rolling up the windows makes it rather difficult for someone to quickly reach-in and take something. And that's why both C5's have Window Valets; makes raising/lowering the windows an effortless no-brainer.
On rare occasion I've reinstalled the targa when parked; at any summer overnight cruise-ins (but that's just once or twice per year).
But, neither of our C5's are daily drivers. I wouldn't drive either to anyplace where I'd fear "problems" from vandalism/theft. That's what the daily drivers are for.

BIRDS.
the wife and I were leaving TGI Fridays, walking toward the Vette parked with it's big butt facing us about 40 yards away. I watched a crow fly over us and make a bombing run on the topless car. how can a bird that size crap that much? from where we were it appeared it scored a bull's eye. I didn't really want to look! thank God the bird was long by about 5 feet......
