Default Quick guestion on clutch fluid

So on sat. I changed out my clutch fluid. 03 Z 10k miles and of corse it was black.

noticed a big change in smoothness etc.

then today, i toticed it wasnt as smooth, so i checked it and it was no where near clear anymore, and pretty dark.

my question is.... is it supposed to get dark that quick?

thanks

Took me about 25 times of replacing the fluid till it remained clear. Most of the intial ones were done by stepping on the clutch with the car in the garage. I replace the fluid about every other month now regardless of color, still is nice and clean.

it took me about 8 times of replacing the fluid in my garage before it got clear. Ill take everything or at least everything I can get out of the master cylinder reservoir, refill it with new fluid close the cap and then pump the clutch about 15 to 20 times then go open the reservoir and do it again untill it becomes clean! Use a syringe to suck it up from the reservoir.

Here's something weird for me. Today I went to do the same fluid change by doing the Ranger method of removing fluid from the reservoir, refill, pump the clutch, repeat. I sucked the reservoir dry, wiped it out, refilled it, then pumped the clutch about 30 times. When I reopened the reservior, the fluid hadn't changed in the slightest. Didn't look like it moved at all.

Any ideas?

Took me about 20 changes to keep it pretty clear. I tried ranger's method, but after pumping the brake x amount of times, it wouldn't change the color.

I discovered, the best way for me was to go for a quick spin and red line a couple of gears. Once I get back and opened the reservoir, the fluid would be very dark. I did it many times during the course of one week and now I manage to keep it stable by changing twice a month.

Took me about 20 times to flush it out, before it was clear. I still change it every month. Use just DOT 3, NO SYNTHETIC FLUID!!!

There are so many posts on this already but i'll throw in my .02 since no one else has said this. The clutch system is self bleeding. It will cycle through itself and the gunk will rise to the top. Pump it till your little heart's content OR just refill the resevoir and wait 5 or 10 minutes. The pumping method really doesn't work any better than that. Also, if you use a shop towel to sop up the clutch fluid you can reduce the waste by only getting the top laywer of filth... but that can be tricky.

What do ya mean by "Didn't look like it moved at all"? If you mean the level didn't move, then that would be normal when doing a reservoir clean and refill.

Not unusual at all. It's a big PITA to do it right, but it's worth the effort.

Takes me 30 seconds to change the clutch reservoir fluid. I do it once every month which is usually 500 or so miles and I use DOT 4 only.

By that I mean that after pumping the clutch some 30 odd times and re-opened the reservoir, the fluid hadn't changed a bit. I know the fluid is terrible because upon opening the reservoir the fluid is dark black. Sucked it out, refilled with new, pumped clutch, opened reservoir and the fluid had not circulated. It was the same new fluid I had just put in there.

well it's black now after driving it right? otherwise you could have a clogged line.

Your experience is my experience. As mentioned above, I recommend driving the car between fluid changes. When I started this, I would change it once a day for several weeks. Actuating the pedal without driving does nothing in my experience--maybe it bleeds air out?

Mail order some Motul 600. A good fluid will really help with this clutch fluid issue.

Driving the car does nothing...pumping the clutch pedal reacts the same driving or not driving the car...you do not even need to start the car. Suck out the resivour and fill with DOT 3 or 4 (4 has a higher boiling point if your doing ALOT of track days) then pump 30 or so times. Repeat this untill fluid is clear...only way to do it!!

I changed out all my clutch & brake fluids about 10k ago.Now I "turkey baster" them both every time I chng the Oil & Filter ( 3k).

Not much discoloration between changes.I use Valvoline Syn-Power full syn.No problems at all.I run this fluid in all my rods.
