Hey guys, doing my brakes this weekend, front and rear with OEM pads and rotors...
Any tips/suggestions for this job? I have a 2004 Z06 with 35,000 miles and i was wondering if it's time to look at anything else while i'm there...
Also, i wanted to paint the center hats on the new OEM rotors black, as well as the caliper brackets, any recommendations as far as what paint to use, prep or anything?
It is pretty easy once you have done them. You may have to have help breaking the caliper bracket bolts loose as they are torqued at 125 ft/lbs plus age. I couldn't get my car up high enough to get a breaker bar on it, so I just took it to a tire shop and had them break the rear ones loose. Also, on the caliper guide pin bolts, if you reuse them, make sure to clean the old loctite that is on there before you replace them. It helps to spray the rotors on the rear with some PB Blaster or WD40 and let them soak before trying to remove them. Don't forget to remove the clips from the rotors that were put on there at the factory. Hope this helps.
Check your tie rod and toe rod ends while things are apart. I had a bad boot on one tie rod end and when I pulled it to replace it was shot. Also my toe rod ends were totally shot at 62k miles.
You guys are great, thanks for all the suggestions!
I bought everything OEM, i prefer the bite and braking performance of the stock pads over anything else, and the dust, well, i can always clean off the wheels a couple of times a week...
One thing, do i have to get new bracket bolts and/or caliper pin bolts? are these 2 different bolts here? i thought the pads just had clip-on pins on them...
