So I'm coming home from a car show and I'm zipping down a long, straight stretch of I-95. About a mile in front of me I see two sedans side by side. Thinking nothing of it, I keep cruising towards them. When I reach them, I see that they're still side by side - neither passing nor slowing to allow a pass - and both are going about three miles over the limit. I figure when they see I want to go by, they'd help make that happen, but no.
When the one sedan finally overtook the other, I just floored it, wanting to get as far away from these two about as fast as I could. Looked down at my HUD - a hundred and eleven miles per hour. Ooops! Didn't quite want to gain that much distance, but there I was - the 'Vette just wants to go and go. Looked in my rear view mirror to see how far I'd gotten from them - and saw the flashing red lights.
Heart in my throat, and letting the 'Vette settle back to the speed limit, I kept glancing in the mirror as the flashing lights got ever closer. When at last I was able to determine that the vehicle was in fact an ambulance, my heart eventually returned to my chest, though I thought I might have needed a ride in that vehicle after all.
Not a close call but I got pulled over for doing 55 in a 55 zone. No ticket.
The newbie LEO (still had the package creases in his shirt) lectured me and told me I should never, ever pass a police car no matter how slow they were driving.
Oops moment:
After experiencing a miss in the engine with my 03 at WOT mid range RPM I was test driving the fix. Turned left at a Stop sign and and went WOT in first. While proceeding down the road at about a 20 degree angle out of the corner of my eye I noticed a PO car sitting in the parking lot on the corner.
I backed off and just motored quietly away (as quietly as you can with headers and SLP Loudmouths...) and didn't see him again.
ME TOO!!! I was driving through NOWHERE Northern Texas when I passed a LEO going the other way!! He pulled a U-turn and flipped on his lights. I was the only one around so I just pulled over expecting to be passed as he was just going to a call, but he settled in behind me...
I knew I was only going MAYBE 73 mph in a 70 zone so I expected a licease plate warning or something... My Z06 is registered in IL, I live in CO and I has passing through Texas from OK, going home from my brother's Basic Training graduation.
I think he saw my Purple Heart plate in the rear and decided to give me a warning for going 3 over......
Only close call..
oh and OP I hope you were on the track doing 100+ mph!!

That is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard!!! I have passed a TON on LEOs!!! If they choose to go under the speed limit.... Well they will get passed. They will definately be passed on a 4 lane road or interstate!!!

I guess he should have wrote himself up for impedeing traffic.I would have asked to speak to a supervisor.:Now if he had his overheads on in the next lane to pull someone over before or while you were passing him, that's a different story!

Yeah, Ive given some of my trooper buddies crap for lollygagging along, creating what I call a rolling roadblock because for some reason, many folks think it's illegal to pass a police car, even if it's doing under the speed limit.
They often cruise about 10 under the limit on the 4 lanes in this area...I ask them why they dont just pull over and let all that traffic by when it starts to stack up behind them...One just smiled and said "Hey, if they arent smart enough to pass me that's their problem"...
I think it creates a traffic problem...and that's the VERY thing they should be trying to avoid....Not be on a power trip to see how many people they can get to stack up behind their car before someone finally has the nads to pass 'em
Dont get me wrong...some of these guys are close friends of mine but this is one area I dont agree with them...
