Default Theft deterrent malfunction

Frequently the horn sounds when I press the lock button on the remote transmiter, and immediate I have to press the unlock button for stopping it.
I have observed that if I wait eight or ten second after closing the door till pressing the lock button on the remote transmiter, the horn does not sound.
It is happening since one month ago, and I do not remember having done any modification in my car.

Hola Luis, this is not a problem I have seen before, but it does sound strange. Do you have the passive switch on your fob set to on or off? Do you have a second fob, and if you do, does it do the same thing? I would also suggest that you check the computer for any trouble codes it may have - this is easy to do using the buttons on the dash - we can tell you how to do this is you have not done it before.

Poolboy,
I have just checked the computer, and it has four trouble codes:
C1255H, U1096H, U1064H, and U1016H
I have three fob and three keys, and the problem occurs with anyone.

My fobs have not passive switch.

Luis, I see all of the codes have an H at the end (means a history code, not a current problem which would have a C at the end), so I am thinking it is not related to the problem you are having with the security system. One of the codes is an EBTCM Internal failure (C1255), which should not be related to security, while the others are failures within the heating system. To be safe though, you should reset the codes so we can watch for new codes to be captured.

Are the FOBs GM Fobs? If they are GM FOBs, what is the part number on their back side? You said this problem started about 1 month ago, and you do not remember making any changes - did you replace the batteries in the FOB recently or open the FOB?

I am sorry I only have more questions for you, but I am trying to find what is different between your car and mine.

Yes the fobs are GM FOBs.
The part number I see on the back side is: GM 10407640.
It is possible you have other part number because the fobs of mine are Europe version.
Regarding the battery, yes, I replaced the battery in one FOB, more or less one month ago.

That sounds like the receiver in the car is reading his lock command as the panic command. I would retrain all three fobs and see if it helps. You can do it by holding down both lock and unlock at the same time untill the car horn sounds. Do it with each fob.

This is good news, but now we have to figure out how to fix it. The reason I am not sure what to do next is because you said that your FOB does not have a passive switch. Just to be sure about this, does your FOB have tha switch that slides left and right just above the slot that the metal key ring goes through, like the one in this picture?

OK, further searching the web I found a picture of your FOB at Ecklers ( http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...dept%5Fid=1172 ). abd I see it does not have a passive switch like the US version does.

Go into the Options menu on the DIC and see if you have the Passive Unlock setting. The passive feature was available on the 1997 - 1999 US models. I am wondering if for the Europe version some of that system was left in the car or FOB, but not all of it. It will not hurt anything to try resyncing the fob (hold loack and unlock buttons until the horn beeps) or even relearning the FOBs (process is in the owners manual), but I am not sure that wll help.

I tried turning on passive on mine, and hit the lock button quickly, but could not produce your symptom, but I think at this point we can believe that changing the battery is what started this problem, so I do not think any parts suddenly broke.

Thank you for trying to help me.
I have already found out the root cause.
Last September, I installed a tilt sensor. You can see it at:http://cgi.ebay.com/DEI-507M-Digital...1%7C240%3A1318

This sensor is activated when the ignition switch is turned off, and 15 second afterward the tilt sensor triggers a ground signal.
If I press the LOCK button on the remote transmitter before passing those 15 second the horn sounds because the tilt sensor triggers a ground signal when the system deterrents is already activated.

The C5 Europe versión has a switch into the engine compartiment, that is closed when the hood is opened.
The tilts sensor simulates that the hood has been opened triggering the same ground signal.

I am not sure of having explained well, because my English level is not good enough.

We hear you loud and clear...Your sensor trips the factory alarm when it goes into watch mode.

Your English is pretty damn good for a second language learner.
