Hey guys, I just wanted to introduce myself as I am a new member. I dont have a Vette but I have a few things in common with you guys. I have a few Buick Grand Nationals, one of which I just converted over to C5 brakes. My problem is the spare in the trunk wont fit over the C5 brakes and that could be a problem down the road. Do the C5's have a skinny spare wheel or are they full size? I'm going to need something incase I have a flat, I'd hate to have the kids in the car and be stuck in the middle of nowhere! Thanks for the info guys! ------Jeremy
Ok I see! So thats how you guys are saving sooooo much weight over us guys!!! I wonder what vehicles I can get a spare from? My tires arent run flats, I went with Falken Azenis 245/40R18's in the front and 315/30R18's in the rear on 10" Intro Pentias on the rear and 8" on the front.
There is a spare tire that I've read about that will fit the C5 bolt pattern. I just can't remember which GM car it's from. Some have gone to the junk yard to find these. Maybe someone could chime in with what car this spare comes from?
If you do a search you'll find that a late model GTO spare will work with the bolt pattern and brakes.

I put a spare from an f-body (camaro, firebird) 97+ on the rear of my vette just to roll around in the garage. Didn't drive it on so I can't tell you if its safe or not but it did bolt up and didn't seem to rub while I was rolling it.
Hmmm?? Ok, I will have to try to find a new GTO in the boneyards! I dont think that will happen but i will try the GTO forums and maybe find someone who is parting one out. Thanks for the info guys! -----Jeremy

Yes, It is a GTO spare that will fit, I think you might have to open the center just a bit to fit.
04 - 06 GTO Spare Tire 17 Inch, I bought mine from the big auction site for 35 bucks.

Okay - so you've apparently made up your mind to carry a spare.....what about a jack and a lug wrench? Got to be careful where and how you jack up the car....BTW - a bumper jack won't work!
Oh. and while your thinking about this - where do you plan to carry all of this extra ballast, and how do you plan to keep it tied down?
I run non-runflats, and have for five years. I carry a plug kit and a small compressor (just like they did on the Z06, which had non run flats and no spare).
In the five years that I've owned my car, I've gotten exactly one flat tire, and I fixed it myself. Forget about the spare tire....it's a waste of space, weight and time......JMHO.

Remember that if you try to use a spare tire on the rear, and you have a posi, the overall diameter of both rear tires should match. Otherwise you risk frying the posi clutches if you drive too far or too quickly. Those clutches don't like to be a slipping "all the time".
One way way to solve this (if you have a flat on the rear), is to swap tires with a front and then put the spare up front.
Thanks for the input guys, I'm needing a spare for my Grand National not a Vette. There is a spare already in the car along with a jack. Just need a bigger spare. I'm assumming the GTO's have a 5x4.75 bolt pattern right?
BTW, this GN makes over 1000HP at the crank, roughly 880 at the wheels and still retains AC, stereo, all the power accessories!
I'm also very familiar with the rear diameter needing to be the same. This is also why I need a bigger spare. There is no way I can hook up with run flats on the car. I had one hell of a time finding a tire that would last and still hook. The Azenis tires do well and still last!

i love grand nationals - what boost are you running it at?
i would purchase a 4th gen 98-02(93+ should work) Camaro factory skinny spare from a local junk yard/pick-n-pull // should be cheaper and easier to find than a gto spare
I'm actually running a Stage 2 Buick MotorSports block, stroked, diamond pistons, Carillo Rods, Champion race ported aluminum heads, 70 ball bearing turbo. Cars not fully together but will be shortly. Car will go to the dyno this spring after the mini tub is done and I'm hoping for one hell of an HP number. I would post a pick but I cant figure out how.
