I have a 2000 Coupe with 90,000 miles (my daily driver) here in New England. Me and my car are getting old.....anyways....
With the car idling for ~15 minutes today I noticed (I think for the 1st time ever) that the temp gauge went to 220 -225 degrees F yet the ambient air temperature was 25 d/F. The cooling fans did not come on yet when I increased the revs from idle to 2,000 the temp dropped to near normal.
The underway highway speed temp is consitent at 192 d/f with the airflow; in the summer stop and go traffic with the a/c on I see the elevated temp but the fans come on.
Q = what do you think about the 225 with outside air at 25 with no airflow?
Q = what temp do the fans come on and is there something that prohibits (lke the a/c) them from coming on w/o a/c and or low outside temp's?
Dave, I went through the same ordeal on my 2000 vert recently. I bought the 160 degree thermostat from Hypertech, and now the car hasn't gotten over 185 degrees. I went on a 2-hour cruise to a car show, and it was great.
Before that, it would start out, and go straight to 235, then fluctuate between 195 and 230,
It was a $50 part, and a 15 minute swap. I killed some grass with the spilled antifreeze.
Put the car on a lift, there might be a bunch of leaves blocking 30% of the radiator. You can only see this if it is on a lift.

When I had the exhaust installed I found a broom in the shop & cleaned mine.
