This is not the first time that this has happened, but today i parked on a slight hill and pulled the e-brake. When i let off the foot brake the car started groaning and moving forward. I hear the ratchet and feel some tension in the handle, and it seems like the brakes are engaging, just not hard enough, and only some of the time. Other times it works fine. I have been leaving it in gear becuase I am scared of the brake letting off when I am not around. Any advice/help?
SO basically the shoes are way too far out and are not engaging with enough pressure to stop the rotor. I will try the fix, but it is still confusing how I can park in my driveway, which is about a 15 degree incline, and most of the time the e-brake works fine. Then other times it slips. Does it hurt anything leaving the car in gear when the engine is off and parked on a hill?
Well, in my experiences it will not hurt a car to leave it in gear on a hill (always accompany that with the e-brake). Someone correct me if I'm wrong there. What you can do to decrease stress on the transmission is when you stop, don't let off the brakes, leave it in gear, pull up the e-brake, then release the brakes. That way you're not putting stress on the transmission from the incline or decline of the hill unless your e-brake malfunctions.
